Immaculate Reception Myth-Busting: What REALLY Happened
Просмотров 7783 месяца назад
Here's the TRUTH about the Immaculate Reception. We look at the words of people who were there and separate the fact from fiction, including the recent controversy (that wasn't a controversy at the time) of whether the ball hit the ground, along with the original controversies of who touched the ball, was the 1972 double-touch rule violated, was there a clip, did the refs signal touchdown, what...
Lynn Swann Makes Head Over Heels Catch
Просмотров 1,1 тыс.5 месяцев назад
While reliving an old Steelers/Pats matchup since it's Patriots week, I watched Lynn Swann make this absolutely RIDICULOUS catch, and the contrast between the "been there before" professionalism of the 1970's vs. the "look at me, look at me" mentality of today couldn't be more stark. Swann makes a catch that Diontae Johnson couldn't make in his wildest dreams, and he just gets up, flips the bal...
Rocky Bleier Spearheads a 17-Point 4th Quarter Comeback
Просмотров 36 тыс.5 месяцев назад
To me, there's only one Steelers/Cardinals game of real significance; it's a BIG one, and we all know what it is. But in 1979 vs. the then-St. Louis Cardinals, Rocky Bleier came off the bench to deliver a FANTASTIC performance after Franco goes down, spearheading a furious 17-point 4th quarter comeback. The game itself was pure ugly... but Rocky's performance was a thing of beauty. Enjoy!

The Greatest Throw of All Time: Terry Bradshaw's 64-Yard Deep Post
Просмотров 110 тыс.Год назад
NFL Films ranks Terry Bradshaw's game-winning 64-yard TD bomb to Lynn Swann in Super Bowl X as the "Greatest Throw of All Time." I couldn't agree more. It had all the elements of the toughest throws: It came on the biggest stage under a relentless pass rush; it was a deep pass (soaring more than 60 yards in the air) placed perfectly over the shoulder of a well-covered receiver. And it made the ...

      Exactly. Bradshaw played nearly the entire ‘77 season with a cast on his broken left wrist, and won team MVP to boot. Players in the ‘70s were cut from a different cloth.

    That wasn't the issue.. Did the ball touch the ground upon "reception" bt Harris and were is the footage of that?? Some video that has been seen shows the tip of the ball hitting the turf making it an incompletion.. That was how I understood the whole thing..

    Proof John Madden was a lying, dishonorable, bitter man contrary to his fake good guy persona on TV. For 40+ years, he knowingly falsely insisted the pass hit Frenchy Fuqua first and the Immaculate Reception should've been called no catch. Worse, he hid the Raiders own all-22 film that proved he was lying. As a lifelong Steelers fan growing up in Pittsburgh in the 1970s, I always thought Madden was a phony, and it's proven.

    I was a 12 year old kid in Los Angeles, watching the game. I liked Franco at Penn State in the few highlights that someone on the west coast would get to see of him. So I was rooting for Franco and the Steelers. I remember watching the game and a neighbor had come over to talk to my Mom. my Mom knew that I was intently watching, so she stepped out on the front porch to talk. When Franco caught the ball, I started yelling for him, and my Mom and the neighbor came in to see what was going on. I can recall it like it was yesterday.

    Let us not forget that just at the moment Harris "caught" the ball, it bounced into his hands. The end zone view we all see now is _zoomed in_ and we never see the tip of the ball. I did see the normal view of that shot (only once) and it is clear the tip of the ball hit the ground and bounced into Harris' hands. (You can see the shadow of the ball meet the ground.) But we're not allowed to see that view, only the zoomed in view, so the "miracle" is preserved. Look at the back judge from the end zone view. He runs to the referee to discuss something (he saw the ball hit the ground). The referee runs to the Oakland bench and calls for more police backup. He was told no more police protection was available. That conversation was heard by multiple players on the Oakland sideline. No more police...so... _Touchdown!_ That pass was incomplete _twice._

  • @lettermenfan32

    The Raiders claim the fall hit Fuqua, and not Tatum, and that they were cheated -- they also claim the ball hit the ground instead of Franco catching it, and also that there was holding on the play. Just like Dallas whining about every call in SB 13, and the Oilers whining about the Renfro call. You would swear the Steelers of the 70's didn't win any games but were gifted them all.

    • @mcmillenandwife
      @mcmillenandwife 14 дней назад

      Doug, you can't be serious. Until recent years, the ONLY argument was that it bounced from Fuqua to Franco. Even Al Davis himself didn't claim Franco didn't catch it, because everybody saw it. Shin high, clear catch. Players, refs coaches, no one disputed Franco's catch at the time. The argument was 100% about the double-touch rule in place in 1972: If it touched Tatum, legal catch; If not, incomplete. Claims that Franco didn't catch it are a more recent concoction, brought about solely because there isn't a crystal clear camera angle (which was the norm in the 1970's). But it wasn't questioned at the time. You can hear what the Raiders say about in their own words here and evidence of Franco's catch. Watch if you dare. ruclips.net/video/iqNvlDx_NvA/видео.htmlsi=_gagG0DxcxoSL1b4&t=189

      @@mcmillenandwife looks like I stuck a nerve. Like I said the only dispute I ever heard was whether the catch was clean. Common sense dictated the ball hit Tatum's shoulder pad so then the contention was did Franco catch it before it hit the ground. It was a legal TD but when a team loses in such a dramatic fashion naturally you're gonna have whiner's.

    • @mcmillenandwife
      @mcmillenandwife 14 дней назад

      @@dougkenny6548 LOL. Yes, you DID strike a nerve. 😂 Well, not you personally, but the premise that it was about the catch rather than the double tap. The myth that it hit the ground is a creation of the RUclips era.

It surprises me that NFL historians do not discuss the fact the last undefeated NFL team ever was Pittsburgh’s next opponent.
